Sleep Apnea diagnosis and treatment options

The Dangers of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, you and likely your bed partner can suffer from many restless nights. Sleep apnea can come in many forms, including snoring, cessations of breathing and waking up frequently throughout the night. While lack of sleep is concerning enough, sleep apnea can also prevent oxygen from getting to the brain or be a cause of high blood pressure and even diabetes. Our team at Lynn Dental Care offers effective oral appliance treatment for symptoms of sleep apnea in Dallas, TX, that can help you get the restful sleep you and your loved ones deserve.

Our Convenient Oral Appliance Solution

Sleep apnea can be treated in a variety of ways, commonly a CPAP machine, but our practice focuses on the convenient oral appliance mouthguard. A CPAP machine is the most common form of treatment, and involves wearing a mask while you sleep so air is continually pushed down the airway. While this has been proven to be effective, many patients we see find themselves CPAP intolerant, being unable to sleep with the mask or noise. When this is the case, we can create a customized oral appliance mouth guard that gently repositions your jaw so the soft tissues of the mouth are not collapsing into the airway. Oral appliances are less obstructive, quieter and even more convenient to travel with when compared to CPAP machines.

The First Step Towards Restful Sleep

While oral appliances can help patients who experience sleep apnea in Dallas, TX, these therapies are not cures. You will need to sleep with either your oral appliance every night in order to benefit from the effects and get a restful sleep. There are other treatment options, such as surgery, weight management programs and positional therapy, however many of our patients find oral appliances to be the easiest to get used to and for nearly immediate results.
