Types of Oral Surgery

Wisdom Tooth Extraction
In many cases, the emergence of wisdom teeth can negatively impact the alignment of the teeth, leave the mouth susceptible to infection, and cause a great deal of patient discomfort. By carefully monitoring the progression of his patients’ oral health, Dr. Lynn is able to determine whether or not the wisdom teeth need to be removed, and if so, the optimal time for extraction. Dr. Lynn will create an incision in the gums and remove the wisdom teeth before closing the area with stitches. Dental Implant Placement
In an effort to provide the most comprehensive and convenient care to all of his patients, Dr. Lynn performs the implant placement procedure himself, rather than referring patients to an outside oral surgeon. During dental implant placement, Dr. Lynn will open the gums and place titanium posts into the jaw bone. These posts will later serve as anchors for the placement of prosthetic teeth.
Bone Grafting
In instances where bone has deteriorated due to infection, or become damaged due to trauma, bone grafting surgery may be necessary to bolster the support structure of the mouth. This procedure utilizes healthy bone from other areas of the mouth and body to rebuild areas of the jawbone that have been weakened. In the event that bone cannot be taken from a different area of the mouth, it is usually taken from the hip. Bone grafting is most frequently performed for patients who require treatment such as the placement of dental implants, as the results of surgery provide a strong jawbone that can support dental restorations.
One form of bone grafting surgery is known as a sinus lift. This procedure is performed when patients have lost their upper back teeth. Dr Lynn will perform oral surgery to lift the sinus, making room for the placement of bone. Once the bone is inserted, it can serve as a strong root for replacement teeth.
Ridge augmentation is another form of oral surgery that is performed after tooth loss. If the jawbone has receded following tooth loss, this can create an unnatural look, and cause the gums to detract as well. By adding bone to the affected area, Dr. Lynn can reverse the effects of deterioration and create an aesthetically-pleasing restoration.
