Detect Cavities Early

Dental Technology Dallas - Diagnodent

The increased use of fluoride has made finding cavities in the early stages of development more difficult. Fluoride hardens the enamel of your teeth, which makes it more difficult for cavities to begin. Because of this, cavities are typically smaller and harder to diagnose in the traditional way. Before, the cavity would show up on a routine x-ray, or our instruments would "stick" in the decayed spot. Small cavities a lot of the time would go undetected.

Diagnodent Information

Now we have technology which we call the Diagnodent, and it uses a laser technology which scans the teeth with pulses of light. A different wavelength bounces back to the sensor, depending on decay or healthy tooth structure. Along with a digital read-out, the Diagnodent also gives an audible signal. When a cavity is present the number on the read-out is higher. The greater the number the greater the amount of decay present in the tooth.

Our use of Diagnodent will benefit you because by diagnosing decay early, we can prevent further damage, and save more of your natural tooth structure. Therefore, your restorations will be smaller, more conservative, and less costly.
