What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells made from ceramic that are bonded to the teeth to cover up cosmetic imperfections. Although they can be used to treat just one tooth, many patients opt to receive a full set of veneers to create a complete, healthy-looking smile. Placing veneers is a simple procedure and with proper care, veneers can last for many years.

People seeking a natural-looking smile are attracted to porcelain veneers for a number of reasons. Veneers are nearly translucent and reflect light in the same manner as natural teeth. In addition, patients can choose the appropriate shading of their veneers so that it closely matches the color of their existing teeth. With the individualized care provided at Lynn Dental Care, patients can receive a smile that is attractive and unique. In line with his commitment to providing comfortable, effective care, Dr. Lynn offers both traditional veneers and no-prep veneers, including LUMINEERS® and DURAthins®.

No-prep Veneers

Unlike standard veneers, which require a small amount of enamel be removed from the surface of the tooth, LUMINEERS® and DURAthins® are ultra-thin veneers that in many cases do not require the removal of enamel before they are placed. As a result, the placement process of these veneers is completely pain-free and quick. The simplified process does not sacrifice the quality of the results, however. And because the natural teeth remain intact, it allows patients to remove the veneers at any time.

Two Steps to a Perfect Smile

Porcelain veneers can easily be placed at either one of our Dallas, Texas offices in just two appointments. During the first appointment, Dr. Lynn will perform a thorough examination to ensure that there is no decay or infection. He will then take a mold of the teeth to get an accurate model of the mouth. This model will be sent to a dental lab which will craft veneers that are a precise fit.

After the veneers are created, the patient can return to Dr. Lynn’s dental practice to have them bonded to the teeth. If the patient is receiving no-prep LUMINEERS® or DURAthin® veneers, this often can be done without having to remove any enamel. With traditional veneers, however, Dr. Lynn will shape the teeth to make room for the veneers before bonding them to the tooth using special cement. Once the bonding process is complete, patients can leave the office with their brand new smile.

Why Choose Porcelain Veneers?

Traditional and no-prep veneers can significantly improve the appearance of your smile. Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments available because they can be used in response to many aesthetic flaws. In addition to providing an illuminated smile, veneers can cover up chips, cracks and misalignment. They can be used to lengthen the teeth and counteract a “gummy” smile, or provide a more natural-looking shape. Veneers can also be considered an orthodontic option, eliminating gaps in the teeth or masking slight misalignment.

The physical benefits of porcelain veneers are important because they translate into emotional benefits for patients as well. Many individuals who receive porcelain veneers experience a self-esteem boost that gives them newfound confidence. And fortunately, this confidence is not short-lived. When cared for properly, veneers can last for many years.
