A long, long time ago if you had a bad bite, otherwise known in the dental world as ‘malocclusion’ the only way to fix that problem was with braces. They were bands made of metal that were slipped over and cemented to each tooth and then they were connected together by wires. Those wires were tightened every so often by your orthodontist.
